Cocoa Beach is a city in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,482 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S Census estimates of 2005, the city had a population of 12,435. Cocoa Beach came to life during the 1960s due to America's space program. NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center is located approximately 15 miles away. The town became home to many young families where one or both parents worked on some aspect of the space program. Children raised here were sometimes referred to as "Cape Brats." The community was once so full of children that the schools overflowed and portable class rooms were built to host them. It was not unheard of for there to be 45 children per classroom. After manned space flights, the town held astronaut parades. Before there was a "Silicon Valley," Cocoa Beach and other surrounding towns were full of the best and brightest technical minds around. Small inconsistent lines coming in this afternoon at the Pier. It’s in the knee to thigh high range with fair shape. The outside is breaking very now and again but is still real mushy. We should see it stand up more as the tide drops out so grab the log if you need to shred. [...]

Accepting a second one-year term, Hospice of Marion County CEO Mary Ellen Poe has been elected President of the Board of Directors for Florida Hospices and Palliative Care (FHPC). As Board President, Poe also chairs of the Executive Committee and supervises the business affairs of FHPC. OCALA – Members of the Pioneer Garden Club and the Greater Ocala Woman’s Club have been busy since July 2011 working on a double studio apartment at the Ocala Ritz Veterans Village. We thought, why not use Our Tampa Bay blog to give you a little more detail? The following are all of the ways that you can recognize Breast Cancer and raise money for this worthy cause in Tampa Bay, Florida.
2010 Suzie Q Blitz Build for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
When: Saturday, October 23 at 8 am

The Suzie Q Blitz Build is a valiant effort organized by Habitat for Humanity Hillsborough to get a home built in just 7 days. The event is in honor of Suzanne Hastings, the wife of Habitat for Humanity crew leader, who lost her battle with breast cancer at 36. You can honor Suzie’s devotion to community and family by donating or volunteering on October 23rd. The donations to the Suzie Q build will benefit the Moffitt Cancer Center.
Beauty for the Cure

Breast Cancer Awareness at Hard Rock Tampa

The goal of this event is to raise awareness and funds for both breast and prostate cancer research. Hosted by Olivia Newton-John and Moffitt Cancer Center founder, H. Lee Moffitt, the event will include a performance by Newton-John herself, along with No.1 Billboard-charting Contemporary Jazz artist and Tampa native Eric Darius.
