Cocoa Beach is a city in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,482 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S Census estimates of 2005, the city had a population of 12,435. Cocoa Beach came to life during the 1960s due to America's space program. NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center is located approximately 15 miles away. The town became home to many young families where one or both parents worked on some aspect of the space program. Children raised here were sometimes referred to as "Cape Brats." The community was once so full of children that the schools overflowed and portable class rooms were built to host them. It was not unheard of for there to be 45 children per classroom. After manned space flights, the town held astronaut parades. Before there was a "Silicon Valley," Cocoa Beach and other surrounding towns were full of the best and brightest technical minds around. Today, many Kennedy Space Center workers still call Cocoa Beach home. -- Source: Wikipedia.com

Your Tampa Bay Holiday: Only the Turkey Should Be Stuffed & Not You
05/07/2012

It’s the same viciously delicious cycle every fall season: in October, Trick-Or-Treating gives you plenty of opportunities to dip into the candy basket more than you should. In November, Thanksgiving dinner has everyone unbuttoning their trousers at the dinner table before dessert has even arrived. Finally, in December, assorted holiday chocolates, cookies, cakes, and the infamous egg nog, makes many people resolve to lose those fifteen extra pounds for the New Year.

Believe it or not Tampa Bay, but we can break this viciously delicious cycle this holiday season – without losing the delicious part! That’s right. Here are some tips that will help you eat better this holiday season, while still leaving room for a little indulgence. After all, it is the holiday!

Rule #1:
Don’t Stress About It! The holidays are a time for getting together with family and friends to enjoy each others company and make wonderful memories; and you certainly won’t be able to do that if you’re constantly counting calories and carbs. Don’t deny yourself that helping of pumpkin cheesecake – just get a smaller slice. Moderation is key!

Don’t Be Afraid to Nibble:
Have you ever heard someone say, “No lunch for me. I’m holding out for that Thanksgiving dinner”? Skipping Meals = Bad Idea. Nibbling on little things throughout the day will keep you from overeating at dinner and vice versa. Nibbling a little throughout the day will keep your metabolism and digestion going at a steady rate instead of overloading it with one huge meal towards the end of the day.

Stay Hydrated:
If you drink extra water throughout the day and before dinner, you will be less tempted to over-indulge. Also, replacing high-calorie sugary juices and sodas with water and sugar free beverages will beneficial to you and the whole family.

Rethink Your Trimmings!
Many times the side dishes and condiments pack the most calories. Easy alternatives that still provide delectable flavor include low-fat gravy and fat free salad dressings. There are also plenty of innovative, mouth-watering gravy recipes at EatingWell.com, so be sure to take a peek at those! To avoid overdoing the carbohydrates, try adding more veggie recipes to your side dishes, such as green bean casserole made with low-fat milk and reduced-fat sour cream.

Be Active!
Sometimes spending a little time away from the delicious aromas floating throughout the house will help curb your appetite, so try taking the dog out for a few extra walks. With family around, there will more than likely be a child or twelve running about your Tampa Bay home. Since “adult talk” is probably no fun for them, take them outdoors, or set up a play area in the basement. This will undoubtedly give you hours of good cardio before dinner, and more importantly, you’ll be the coolest adult ever.

By following these few easy tips, Thanksgiving in your Tampa Bay home is sure to be deliciously healthy this holiday season. Spending the holidays in Tampa Bay is not like spending the holidays anywhere else, so if you’re interested in Tampa Bay Real Estate, be sure to contact us! We would love to welcome you to your dream home!
